New security risks and a change in culture

Christopher Harrell, chief technology officer at Yubico says that the pandemic has pushed organization culture and IT strategies to uncomfortable boundaries. Concepts like micro-segmentation and zero trust security to prevent lateral movement are increasingly important — all the while strategies encompassing firewalls and VPNs are no longer sufficient. It’s not unexpected that the role of the CISO today has taken on significant importance as they look to guide strategies around risk tolerance.

To tackle these challenges, Harrell says that he is seeing security teams more willing to share information with their peers in order to combat threats and risks. He discusses training and other collaborative initiatives to help organizations get ahead of threats.
